We had a relatively relaxing day exploring the Torquay area which was really nice.
We started by investigating the gorgeous lighthouse in Aireys Inlet where we were staying.

Officially known as Split Point Lighthouse it has been looking out over the wild Bass Strait where hundreds of ships have met their demise over the last couple of hundred years.
Constructed in 1891 the lighthouse remains operational today and is an important tool relied upon by modern maritime travels.

Daily tours allow you to climb up into the top of the lighthouse for Birds Eye views of the coast.
It’s an easy walk from a free car park with plenty to check out even if you don’t do the tour.

As you can see by these pics the weather wasn’t fantastic so we took a leisurely drive up into Torquay and visited some of the surf shop outlet stores – as usual hit and miss but we did pick up a few bits and pieces as gifts. Although we did take the opportunity to buy some new tracky dacks to keep us warm in these freezing single digit temperatures 😬
We continued the drive across to Barwon Heads which is a gorgeous area on the Bellerine Peninsula not far from Geelong. Full of wineries, restaurants, crafty shops and golf courses – on top of that the beaches in the area are next level pretty.
On the way back to camp we decided to pop into a winery that was on the road out of Torquay called Bellbrae Estate

They really looked after us by finding a spot inside out of the weather to have a nice tasting and a cheese plate. it was a really nice afternoon and when they said they had a special on some of their wines? Well ……

Back to the van for a nice relaxing night with a bbq dinner all made with beautiful local produce.
We got ready to pack up and move on the next day to our next stop after a fantastic week down here in the Surf Coast.
One of the great destinations despite the horrific weather.
